Welcome to Delsbo Forngård – a living heritage in the heart of Hälsingland
Every summer, on the first Sunday in July, Delsbo Forngård transforms into the vibrant stage for Delsbostämman – one of Sweden’s most cherished folk music gatherings. Imagine fiddles playing, dancers in colorful traditional costumes, and the sound of centuries-old melodies filling the air. It is a celebration of culture, tradition, and community – and you are warmly invited to join!
Delsbo Forngård is an open-air museum and cultural center, owned and run by the Delsbo Local Heritage Association. Here, history isn’t just preserved – it’s alive.
What you’ll discover at Delsbo Forngård:
Historic Hälsingegård farmhouses – Explore three traditional log farmhouses, each brought here from different parts of Delsbo. Inside, you’ll find stunning 18th-century baroque-style wall paintings – a glimpse into the artistry of rural Sweden. Guided tours (summer at 12 PM & 3 PM) bring these stories to life.
Sweden’s old-time school experience – Children can step into Delsbo’s very first schoolhouse and try out lessons the way they were taught more than a hundred years ago.
Prayer houses, barns, and stables – Walk through the many historic buildings that once shaped everyday village life.
Local museum treasures – Discover unique folk artifacts, intricate textiles, and an extraordinary collection of traditional Delsbo costumes (Delsbodräkten). Temporary exhibitions of art, photography, and costumes are also hosted throughout the year.
Museum shop & café – Browse local handicrafts, handwoven textiles, knitting kits for the iconic Delsbo sweater, and books about local culture and dialect. Don’t miss a taste of the region: the café serves Hälsingeostkaka – a traditional Swedish cheesecake, unlike any other!
